The Game of Life

One day, Alberto arrived home much earlier than usual. He threw his boots in any corner of the house and went to his room without speaking to his mother, Rosa. She went to the boy’s room and saw him lying in bed with his face on the pillow.

“What happened? Why did you come home so early?”

“I don’t wanna know anything more about soccer!” He replied, still with his face in the pillow.

“How can you not?” Rosa was surprised. “That’s your passion!”

“That was my passion,” he said as he turned to the wall.

Rosa noticed that he was crying. She sat on the bed and began to caress him.

“Talk to your mom about what happened.”

He turned to her and told her what had happened that day. Rosa became very nervous and sad.

“Alberto, take your boots,” she said decidedly. “We’re going back to that field now!”

“Mom, no!” Alberto protested. “That won’t do any good!”

“Of course, it will. Learn something in your life. There will always be people trying to humiliate and belittle you. You can never let them win. You must fight for your rights and for justice. That’s how life is. Things are not given; they are conquered. Now, let’s go!”
